I was reading the Paris Review and saw a very interesting post on literary friends. If I were to choose any literary friend, to hang out with me for a weekend or a day, who would I choose? I think I’d choose Hans Castorp, from The Magic Mountain (Thomas Mann); Aomame, from 1Q84 (Haruki Murakami); Dimitri or Anna, from The Lady with the Dog (Anton Chekhov); Zucherman, from Exit Ghost (Philip Roth); Florentino Ariza, from Love in the Time of Cholera (Gabriel García Márquez) and, of course, Sal Paradise, from On the Road (Jack Kerouac). What about you? Who would be your literary friends?
